x8980 E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} W. H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} C. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} NEW PHANTOMCodename for PHANTOM I ROCKER MECHANISM. VALVES & ROCKER. --------------------------------- I wish to confirm the arrangement arrived at some time ago in agreement with R.{Sir Henry Royce} and Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} that where you have trouble from over-oiling it is desirable to plug up the oil hole in the inlet rocker by an aluminium plug in order to prevent excess of oil escaping at this point and running down the inlet valve stem and working its way into the cylinder past the gland. It is not proposed at the moment to do this on all chassis, as we are not quite sure it is necessary in every case, and further we would like some actual experience extending over some time as to the efficacy of this, or whether it has any other special effect. We know that you have, in accordance with my instruction, been despatching certain chassis up to the present moment with plugging in the rocker oil holes. this is in accordance with what R.{Sir Henry Royce} agreed to when Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} and EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} interviewed him on the subject. BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} By | ||
