COPY. To CJ. from BJ. Copies to Hm. {Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs} EP. {G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} D {John DeLooze - Company Secretary} /EP. {G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} Chassis No.GPK-43. - Mackay, Harrogate. " " GSK-76. - J.E. Hutton. I attach an extract from a letter from Mr. J.E. Hutton, and a complaint concerning GPK-43. from Mackay of Harrogate, both re low speed steering wobbles on 20-HP. cars. We had been advised that on a certain few 20-HP. chassis these low speed wobbles did exist in a minor degree, but as it took place at slow speeds and was not considered to be frequent or violent, the output of chassis was not stopped, on the understanding that W. would place the matter before West WitteringHenry Royce's home town with a view to seeing that the design was altered as soon as possible. The position has now arisen that it has been discovered that when these cars have been in use for some time, the wobble increases as the parts get worn. These are by no means the only complaints we have had. At present we understand the Works know of no cure. I am sending a copy of this note to Hm. {Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs} in order that he may immediately consider the matter with Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} and Ey. to ascertain whether there is any possible means they can suggest by which we can overcome the customers' troubles whilst the new design is being considered, as it seems most undesirable that when a customer complains we should merely inform him that we know of this fault but cannot help him. It is therefore desirable that Hm. {Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs} should have this matter considered and reply to us as soon as possible, to enable us to deal with these two complaints to-morrow, if possible. I attach a copy of a report CWE. has written to Derby on the subject of wheel wobble, CWE2/DN20.3.26. BJ. | ||
