For the attention of Mr. K.L. Hardy.

Dear Sirs,

You will recollect that in June last your Mr. E.J. Hardy called on us with reference to the trouble we were having with our fabric couplings. (ref. your letter JAO/ED.{J. L. Edwards} 2.6.30).

Mr.Hardy submitted two discs to us, the main features of these being that they had one less layer of fabric in the disc and more rubber. We have since run the disc marked A.{Mr Adams} for a distance of over 10,000 miles with very good results and should like you to supply us with a further one dozen discs of this type for test purposes as soon as possible. We should also like to know exactly what the specification of this disc is so that we can appreciate the modification.

One other point we would like to know is this. If you were given a free hand to supply a coupling to be fitted between the flywheel and the gear box as is the case on our 40/50 HP. car, what dimensions of disc would you specify to deal with a 7 1/4 litre engine having a maximum low speed torque of 350 lbs.ft? The reason we ask this is because we get some unaccountable failings of fabric couplings while others show the design to be well up to the loads which have to be carried.

Yours faithfully,

FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED.

Our official order will follow in due course.
