Knocking issues, clearances, and a provisional patent.

-2- trouble from knocking owing to the comparatively large film of oil provided. We should not of course require such extremely small clearances, in this case, the ball on the shaft would be quite clear of the surrounding box. I understand from Mr Burt that he has taken out a provisional patent for this scheme and he is anxious to have a decision, as the time given for completing the patent expires in August. Mr Bailey is of the opinion that no further trouble with knocking will be experienced with the modified clearances recently instructed in connection with our standard design.
