Oil release valve.
As oil pressure failed at low speeds, it was found necessary to dismantle the unit. A small piece of foreign matter was found underneath main oil release valve. This was cleaned & the unit refitted. Afterwards the oil pressure remained constant. We are still of the opinion that the oil release valve unit is still in an inaccessible position. Before this can be dismantled, it has to be thoroughly cleaned of sludge, etc.

Battery ignition.
Coil "Edmanol" encased Z.H. 710. Improved ventilation to distributor head to L.E.C. 2121. Drwgs. 71005/6.
Contact points special large diameter Tunstall.
The battery ignition failed during the test, due to the wire breaking off the ballast resistance. Otherwise the battery ignition has worked satisfactorily. The contact points are still in a very good condition. [illegible strikethrough]

Oil relay for ignition system.
We have had no trouble with this during the test. It has functioned satisfactorily. The relay piston leather is still in good condition. Examination of filter shewed it to be quite clean.

Connecting rods, to E.73762/3 with m/s bushes E.73767 in big end to L.S.C. 2081 (Sch.2.A.)
We have still no indication that these are not in a satisfactory condition.

Bonnet & fittings.
Bonnet handles & catches to E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Sch.2037.
As reported at the end of 2,500 miles, the bonnet at N.S. had settled down until it was resting on the bonnet fastener bracket. This has now almost chattered the bracket through. Also, the load being taken off the bonnet fastener, has allowed this to chatter to such an extent that it has worn the clip fastened on bonnet away, & is now useless. The ferodo webbing on bonnet supports is not thick enough to keep the bonnet entirely from the metal. The bonnet shows signs of chattering at the corners of the top hinge. We believe it would be better if the fabric was brought further down, so as to keep the bonnet from chattering on the metal. One bolt became loose in N.S. bonnet shutter. This was lost. The N.S. bonnet strip bolts, holding same to frame, have all worked loose. These are a source of trouble, as throughout all our tests over here, the same thing has occurred over & over again. It is probably due to the soft material, which allows the heads of the bolts slightly to embed themselves, which is sufficient to start the trouble. They have been thoroughly tightened up, but they will not stay so.

Engine guards.
We consider these to be very good, & as previously reported the engine remains clean.

Radiator.
This is still in good condition.
