- 5 - Radiator suspension, shutter & controls. Examination of radiator suspension shews it to be in good condition. We cannot detect any wear having taken place. The shutters have operated perfectly, & we have not noticed any rattles from these. The controls have worked satisfactorily, & all joints are in good condition. The ratio of opening of the shutters attained by the notches on quadrant we find quite satisfactory. The temperature being regulated to a nicety by the movement of one notch on quadrant either way. It has not been necessary to open the radiator shutters more than four notches during the test, to keep an average water temperature of 80°C. Dashboard brackets. These are in good condition. Bolts holding same have remained secure. Steering column & box. Steering "g" type 0.720" lead steering worm & nut F.73465/6 with steel core for white metal threads. The condition of steering column & box is O.K. The box is free from oil leaks. It has not been necessary to add any further oil. Bolts holding steering column to dashboard have remained secure. Bolts holding box to frame have also remained secure. The rocker shaft bearings are in good condition, & pendulum lever is still secure on shaft. The action of the steering has not altered since our previous report. We still get the binding effect at the extreme locks of steering. Gearbox & actuating gear, to L.O.F. G.73552. Suspension of gearbox has remained O.K. The gears are good, & there has been no tendency for any of the gears to come out of mesh. There is still a slight oil leak from the rear main bearing. Servo & servo link motion. The servo has been quite O.K. during the continuation of the test. The insert of fibre on scissor levers has on the forward braking lever been pressed out of shape & broken up. This is an experimental feature for quietness, but the tests shew that it is not satisfactory for holding up to the work it has to do. The servo link motion is still in good condition, & has fulfilled its requirements. Change gear & brake mechanism. Modified change speed mechanism & side levers to L.E.C. 2079. H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} Sch. 1970, 1903, 2001, & Arrgt. Drwg. G.73774. We consider that the changing of gears is easy to manipulate, & the brake mechanism is in good condition. Gearbox undershield, with felt strip attached, to L.E.C. 2091. This has kept the gearbox free from dirt, & we consider it to be satisfactory. | ||
