FAIREY'S PHANTOM II. (CHASSIS 34-GN). Having recently taken delivery of, and driven Mr. Fairey's car in France, the following information may be of interest :- Mr. Fairey is very pleased with the performance and the appearance of the car. He expresses surprise that the performance is not advertised and demonstrated to a greater extent. In his opinion, the all round performance is better than the so claimed high performance cars (i.e. Mercedes, Duesenberg, Hispano, etc.) and the chassis price is lower, which should be a very good selling factor. The following troubles were experienced on the trip :- (1) Water Overflow from Radiator Cap. This occurs at high speeds, with the water level in the radiator lower than that stated in the handbook. By the way in which the water is forced out, it appears to be building up in the radiator head. This is a very bad feature as after a long run the front of the car is very dirty. The normal working temperatures were 75 to 80°C. (It may be noted that no washer is fitted under the radiator cap.) (2) Oil Pressure Drop. This was experienced, using Motorine "C", and occurred after about an hour on the road while | ||
