x7380 To Dm{D. Munro}/EV.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} FROM Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/AJL. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/AJL.1/AJ.31.12.29. REAR WHEEL ARCH CLEARANCE. PHANTOM II. With reference to EV.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}1/21.12.29., we have examined the proposed alterations as shewn on N.Sch.3003 and are satisfied that the clearances obtained will be sufficient to eliminate any trace of bumping under the worst conditions which we have been able to produce by driving the car over a very rough field either fully laden or with no passengers on board. The clearances given are equivalent to those asked for in Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/AJL.1/cl.17.12.29., and are extended further forward and backward of the axle centre line. Identical clearances have been obtained and tested on 2-GX; in this case the subframe is .500" narrower than standard and has been cut away .250" less on each side than called for on N.Sch.3003 so that the effect is exactly the same.
