RE REAR WHEEL ARCH CLEARANCE - PHANTOM II.

With reference to EV{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}1/21.12.29. immediately it was realized that the cause of the trouble was due to the subframes having been increased 3/4" in width we issued instructions (last week) to the Works to have all subframes cutaway as at present but 3/4" deeper each side, also we made arrangements for all subframes delivered to coachbuilders etc. to be altered likewise.

We took immediate action in order to keep down the charges which would be met by coachbuilders, and we send you herewith print LF.1422 showing what we have done.

N. Sch. 3003 which we have just received demands still further alterations including the cutting away of the subframe crossmember behind the heelboard, also for a still further cutting away of the wheel arch in the coachwork. These two alterations are apparently to cater for the 'Fort' type tyre, and since these are not standard it does not seem necessary to carry out these two modifications on the subframes and coachwork which have already been built up at the coachbuilders, as they will involve us in a considerable expense.

If it is agreed that the reduction in the width of the rear seats caused by the increase in the wheel arch clearance is in order, then we would suggest introducing these two modifications as soon as possible, and that subframes delivered also those which have been built into coachwork should be modified in accordance with the arrangements which we have already made, and as shown on LF.1422.
