HARTFORD SHOCK ABSORBERS.

Dear Sirs,

We are in receipt of your favour of the 16th instant, and regret to hear that you have had several cases reported to you of the locking pin of the centre adjusting bolt of the Hartford Shock Absorbers having sheared, which, of course, prevents further adjustment, and though we have not received any complaints in this respect from any other source, we are quite prepared to alter the locking arrangement, and utilise a hexagon on the pin instead of the key on all shock absorbers supplied to your goodselves.

We are making up a sample shock absorber, incorporating this improvement, which we will submit for your approval in the course of the next few days, and we have no doubt that this will effectively overcome all trouble in this direction in future.

With regard to the defective washers you have returned, we do not wish to offer any excuse, as, of course, these should not have been passed, and we are taking this matter up very seriously with our Works, and will do our utmost to prevent a repetition of this in future.

With regard to the spring plates, here again, we must admit that a mistake has been made, and that you should either have received shock absorbers with thick spring plates or triplex spring plates, that is two large single ones and one small backing plate, and it was the omission of one large spring plate which caused the single spring to collapse.

CONTINUED.
