X3807 To BT.{Capt. J. S. Burt - Engineer} from Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} c. WOP. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} RHO. ROY.{Sir Henry Royce} Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}1/HP.12.1.34. Bentley Near Axle Pinion Bearing. -------------------------------- Herewith is N. Sch.3943, showing the special combined ball and roller bearing for the axle pinion, designed to overcome the present trouble. It is considered to be a better design than the existing double ball bearing, and though we are continuing tests with this latter to determine the value of relieving the forward race of journal load, as it may carry us on until we are prepared to fit this new bearing, it is considered that we should immediately obtain some of these special bearings from Hoffmann's for test. We have accordingly asked Hoffmann's to supply us with six, and should be glad if the Order Office would send on any necessary order.
