| To Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} C.c. B.W. [Struck through in red] [Handwritten] X223. E.1/HP.22.6.33. re Bentley Exhaust. We think everything possible should be done to avoid changing to the swan neck type of exhaust pipe passing over the rear axle, as this is heavier, and has a number of disadvantages. [A line is hand-drawn through the following paragraph] We believe the pipe under the axle of which complaint is made is of the oval pattern, and we suggest that before this type is condemned a circular pipe should be tried.
