S/W. (Private) Lp{Mr Lappin}/LAM.14.11.32. To Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} from Lp.{Mr Lappin} I was talking to Staniland on Saturday, who mentioned that he had been trying the 2-litre Bugatti. He states that it is very comfortable and has shock damper control, will do four miles per hour to 110 in top. It is a 2-litre engine in a 4.9 litre chassis. The engine is, however, noisy. Chassis price £1,150. Lp.{Mr Lappin} S = Sales, Conduit St.{Capt. P. R. Strong} W = Nightingale Rd Works, Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}- W.A. Robotham; in 1932, & chassis devt & testing, & d & d to Hives. In 1936 when Hives separated car & aero work, Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} became responsible for all Exp chassis project & devt work LP{Mr Lappin}- Willoughby Lappin; job never clearly defined but was R-R's No q contact & 'outgeman' for military aero engines - Hives thought very highly of Lp.{Mr Lappin} Chris Staniland - Fairey Aviation's Chief Test Pilot, who lost his life test flying Exp Firefly (Griffon II B) in WWII OVER | ||
