To Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell} from Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} 1315 Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}7/AP.19.8.37 In view of the results obtained on the Wraith with reduced valve lift, we consider that it is important to make similar tests on the Ph.III.,to see if we can get the same figures on this engine unit with resultant advantages with regard to quiet timing gears. If this can be done with cast rockers it might be more economical than using a new camshaft. If successful, we would consider bringing it in with the new cheapened bottom valve gear which we have already discussed with you and which is being detailed.
