-4- appears to be O.K. Spring clips have remained firm. No wear can be detected in rear shackles and pins. The general riding of the car is very good on all but bad roads. There has been occasional times when the car has been down on the buffers. STEERING COLUMN TO L.O.P. F.56474. LOWERED STEERING CONTROLS TO H.S. 2882. STEERING WHEEL F.56442.- The steering has been generally good all round. No slack or wear can be detected in the steering column. The controls have operated satisfactorily. Examination of steering box found level of oil to be correct. FRONT & REAR SHOCK DAMPERS TO L.O.P. F.55944 & F.55965.- The loading of the dampers has remained as set in Derby. There has been an oil leaks from the glands of all shock dampers. The oil level in the dampers has been decreased to overcome this leak, but there still remains a slight leak from the glands. The rear damper connecting links were not getting sufficient oil from the Bijur lubrication, with the result that wear occurred at the bottom pads and caused them to chatter. The oiling has been attended to and no further wear or rattle has taken place. The front were adequately lubricated and have not needed any attention. RADIATOR & FITTINGS TO L.O.P. F.55062. CHROMIUM PLATED.- The chromium plating is still in good condition. We have not detected any water leaks from the matrix or top and bottom tanks. The total loss of water during the 5,000 miles has been 2.5 pints. The anchorage of the radiator has given no trouble. Shutters have operated satisfactorily. Slight indentations have been caused by the bonnet side hinges chattering on the radiator. BONNET TO L.O.P. F.55063.- The bonnet sides have chattered. The n/s lock has broken and is useless. The tubes in the two side hinges are loose and fidget forward. Otherwise the bonnet is in good condition. BATTERY BOX.- The anchorage of the battery box and stays has given no trouble. No wear can be detected in the anchorage. The battery has been topped up, .250 of a pint of water being necessary. No undue charging has been given during the day's run. BODY SUBFRAME TO L.O.P. F.56704.- With the exception of the front bolts working loose during the mileage, no other defects can be detected. FRONT WINGS & STAYS TO L.O.P. F.55778.- The front wing stays have given trouble throughout the mileage. They are too weak to carry the weight of the wings and head lamps. The o/s rear and front have broken through the bottom lugs where attached to frame, and the front one through the flange where the head lamp bracket is attached. We have had to have these welded up and have fitted bracing stays to prevent the abnormal vibration. The wings have cracked round the front bend and where attached to running boards, and where fitted round the steering box. The rear wings have worked loose through bolts breaking. PETROL TANK TO L.O.P. F.56487.- The petrol tank and its anchorage show no signs of deterioration. PETROL GAUGE F.56260/F.56367.- With the exception on one occasion when the gauge read 2 gallons and tank was empty, it has read correctly and has not given any trouble. | ||
