X3855 RHG. Sft.{Mr Swift} Mr. Smithdale. Rg.{Mr Rowledge} Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} ------------- TAB LOCKING WASHERS. ------------- The double tab locking washer which is used extensively on chassis and aero engines has definitely been arranged so that it will lock either on a corner or on the flat, which means that it gives the equivalent of 1/12 of a turn. It would appear that the Works have got the impression due to the fact that two tabs are shown that it is only intended to lock on the corners - this idea is entirely wrong. The lock is precisely the same whether the tabs are turned up on the corner or on the flat. It is of great importance to note that only one of the tabs in any case represents the lock, and the tab in question is the one close up to the corner back against which the nut would turn to slacken itself. It is also of the utmost importance that on tab washers the tab should be made to tightly fit against the flat right at the bottom of the nut. The lock is not effective if the tab is merely bent over so that the top touches the nut, and there is a space left at the bottom. BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} By | ||
