E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} LPs Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Dorl/ADW.8.31. X4518 1copy R.17. RECONDITIONED FOR MISS ENGLAND II. The first of the Miss England II engines R.17 has been tested out ready for Detroit. We only took one power reading at 3000 R.P.M. in order to conserve the life of the engine as far as possible. This reading was taken on our 1931 Schneider fuel 20% Aviation, 70% Benzol 10% Methanol + 4 ccs TEL/gall. The power was 1912 C/BHP. as against 1862 C/BHP on our old fuel 22/78 + 3 prior to Lake Garda trials. New valve springs were fitted all round, they were all O.K. after power check. Slow running was set at 700 R.P.M. as previously. The engine accelerated from 700 to 3000 R.P.M. in 2 secs. Gas starter tested and found O.K. Fuel consumption set at .625 pts/BHP/hr. and control locked. The reduction gear will be removed and direct drive fitted when the engine will then be ready for installation in the boat.
