NEWARK-ON-TRENT.

Attention of Mr. Hickling.

Dear Sirs,

Ref: FOH/AD.

Thank you very much for sending the Hoffman bearing after 26 hours at 4500 r.p.m. As the interest of this test is really how a cageless roller bearing will stand the high speeds, could you continue the test arranging the thrust load just to take up the end clearance of the bearing so that failure of the thrust track will not stop the test.

We should be glad also if you would run a 4 MD bearing at 4500 r.p.m. top gear loads so as to have an exact comparison between the two bearings.

Yours faithfully,

FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED.
