Seeking clarification on conflicting information regarding the testing of a dropped crossmember on chassis 4-B-IV.

When I was at Derby on the 24th it was stated quite clearly that the additional dropped crossmember to reduce lamp and wing movement was being tested on 4-B-IV. You will see I have referred to this in the notes of the meeting. There is no doubt about this, because we discussed the question of risking ordering material, so that if it was quite O.K. on the test we could bring it into production quickly. When I saw the 5,000 mile test report of 4-B-IV, the paragraph about front movement indicated to me that if it was fitted with the additional crossmember, the latter was not doing very much good. I therefore asked Bn.{W.O. Bentley / Mr Barrington} to ascertain on the telephone if it was fitted and am now informed that such is not the case.
