Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} c. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} X8420 ED.{J. L. Edwards} BY3/H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} 29.6.26. LIGHTENED TYPE FRONT AXLE. PHANTOM. -------------------------------- Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} and myself have given the question of the new axle forging consideration, and we are quite satisfied that the right thing to do at this juncture, now that we have altered the dies to R's latest requirements, is to order 50 forgings to have these ready for production. The original axle which was considered to be a little light by Mr Royce, in a few places, has stood for 50 hours continuous bumping without showing the slightest sign of weakness. We consider that the risk is practically negligible in ordering the 50 forgings in question, and that therefore in order to keep continuity of output it is of the utmost importance that these forgings should be put in hand, as otherwise we shall have to go on to the old type axle, the use of which on any further cars R.{Sir Henry Royce} is strenuously opposing.
