- 3 - BY/NS.{Norman Scott}18/G.16.6.38. Alterations to Detail Drawings. These are recorded against individual drawings i.e. the first alteration is numbered 1 and so on. In order to facilitate reference they have a scheme whereby the horizontal and vertical border of each drawing is divided into a convenient number of divisions (very similar to a map) each of these divisions is numbered. By giving the pin point figures for the square in which the alteration was made, against the alteration number, the change can be found without looking through every alteration on the drawing. A brief description of the alteration is given on the tracing. Arrangements. They draw arrangements of sections and units as well as sub-assembly arrangements. On the section arrangement drawings a sub-assembly is shewn thus :- 1000000 ) 1000500 ) 1000516 ) 1000900 1000600 ) 1000750 ) Sub-assembly drawings at Vauxhall are generally speaking only made when two or more pieces have been permanently fastened together and further machining is to be done on the whole item. The question of sub-assemblies at RR. will have to be investigated. Full size layouts of the chassis are made on sheet aluminium, painted green. These drawings are done in pencil. The sheets are divided up horizontally and vertically every 10". The draughtsman working on these drawings has the sheet fixed to a flat table. In the bodywork section the details of body sides and wings are done in this manner, two drawings are made, one being used by the Shops and the other by the D.O. Experimental work. The commencement of any design work is authorised by the Senior Engineer in charge of the section concerned. A sheet giving a description of the proposed work and the reason is issued and signed up. | ||
