X2924 To W.O.R. from E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} E.2/HP.10.10.32. c. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} X5770 J.2. Chassis. A meeting was held of Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} and E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} in connection with the above chassis, and the following notes were taken regarding the sections which require modification. (1) Stiffer Crankshaft - should be to LeC.3193 for the rear end, and it is assumed that the main bearings will be increased as shown on this drawing, and there there will be no alteration to pins and webs. By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} will get out a shaft of these particulars, together with the 6/8 balance weight/scheme. head (2) Cylinder Head. - The new design of cylinder/is required of the fully turbulent type. It is agreed that this should be made if possible to suit both 3.25 and 3.4 bore by leaving extra material on the floor of the head. The ratio required is 5.75 to 1, which it is considered J.2. should stand, from the results obtained from J.1. This head should have the 14 m/m sparking plugs. E59068 4.11.32 (3) Crankcase Oiling System. - This should be made throughout like the latest Peregrine 2, as shown on LeC. 3185. and-Les.{Ivan A. Leslie} By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} will expect a LeC. design for these modifications. E (4) Slipper Wheel. - A new design of slipper wheel is required for J.2. based on the Peregrine experience. We are awaiting a decision from the Experimental Department as to the type that will be ultimately adopted. (5) Carburetter & Induction Pipes. - The J.3. carburetter design has been issued, together with the induction pipe, but a scheme will probably be required for the controls. | ||
