To D.R. from E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Copy to C.J. " " BN.{W.O. Bentley / Mr Barrington} " " HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} " " EFC. " " DY.{F R Danby} X.3888 ORIGINAL RE PETROL LEVEL INDICATOR AND SPARE FUEL DEVICE. Referring to N. scheme 540, it is feared that with the maximum body it will be difficult to undo the air and petrol pipes for the purpose of dropping the petrol tank, or to undo the screws which hold the top lid{A. J. Lidsey}, for the purpose of withdrawing the reserve fuel device. For this, and other reasons, Mr. Royce suggests inclining the stand pipe until its lower end passes through the centre of curvature of the top face of the tank, its upper end remaining approximately in the present position. This will make the upper flange symmetrical. The upper flange should be a brass pressure casting about ½" deep threaded inside, with a hand hole about 3.250" diameter. The ring which screws into this collar should have no collar feature on the top, and should be of "T" section, as shewn in sketch, the rim being decreased in thickness, and the screw holes being moved nearer to the outside. It is assumed that the complete stand pipe flange assembled with screws and screwed ring will be twisted bodily into the screwed flange on the tank. (Contd.) | ||
