9th February, 1937.

J.W. Howlett, Esq.,
Wellworthy Piston Rings Limited,
Lymington, Hants:

Dear Mr. Howlett,

I regret to note from your letter of February 6th that you have had trouble with your front brakes after running through flood water. This is undoubtedly a problem.

The brake lining which we use on the Bentley has particularly good wearing properties, but, unfortunately, such linings are affected by water. We have put on a shield which will prevent water getting into the brake drums when the car is washed, but this will not cope with flood conditions. If you like we will change your brake linings to some which are less susceptible to water.

The un-even braking we do not understand, and there must be something wrong. We should like to have your car back at the Works at the earliest opportunity to go over the system, and see where the fault lies.

I am sailing for America on the 17th, but Mr. Grylls will look after you in my absence. If possible, I would recommend that you send the car up this week. We will not keep it any length of time.

Yours sincerely,
