OBJECT OF TEST.
Preparation of 3-F-X (low compression) for Camshaft and Valve comparison tests.
TESTER.
F.C.Wenger.
CONDITIONS.
3-F-X - low compression ratio (drg. specification) 5.4 to 1.
fitted with :-
2 Watford magnetos - type 1-S-12.
Standard gudgeon pins but with P/B end pieces.
Low compression pistons with concave crowns.
Long dwell inlet camshaft E.28337.
Small dia. valves E.28411.
Liners of spigotted buttress thread type E.28512.
Carburetters - 2-CH. Duplex over side of bands as per 4-F-X.
SUMMARY OF TEST.
3-F-X.
Fitted with low compression pistons was rigged up ready for running in light. The compression ratio as specified is 5.4 to 1 but this will be checked by capacity measurement in the near future.
By the use of these low compression pistons in the engine we hope to get some consistent camshaft and valve comparison tests run off, as before with high compression pistons (ratio 6 : 1 c.) we were troubled with detonation, and with valves sticking as on the 6-cyl. F.X.
