other than that for which he has been expressly appointed. He shall give no assistance to the car crew. He shall in addition be entrusted, in case of need, with the care of introducing into the petrol tank the oil authorised as staded in article 8-0 hereunder.

Any violation of the provisions of this article will entitle the race Stewards to inflict fines of Fcs 200 and 1.000 for the first and second offences respectively. A third offence would involve the exclusion of the car from the race.

The attendant will wear a special badge supplied by the organisers.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Art. 8-E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} - The competitor is responsible for the proper handling of the distributor devices provided for his use. He will be chargeable for any deterioration caused by him.

Art. 8-F.{Mr Friese} - The distributing stations having been designed with a view to procure utmost safety in the handling of fuel, it is imperative that all requisite precautions should be observed in the filling of tanks and that fuel should not be spilt on the ground through clumsy manipulation of the cocks.

PRECAUTIONS TO BE ADOPTED

Art. 8-G.{Mr Griffiths - Chief Accountant / Mr Gnapp} - The distributing stations are arranged to provide the delivery through the nozzle of the flexible piping of a quantity of fuel of approximately 120 litres (26 Imp. gallons) a minute.

While the flexible piping of the fuel distributor is being used, the competitor should, in case of need, attend to the immediate operation of the safety valve positioned at the intake end of the flexible piping (see fig. II, No. 19).

The attention of competitors is drawn to the speed with which the fuel enters the tank under considerable pressure causing the rapid outrush of the same quantity of air : it is desirable therefore to take all precautions to prevent the evacuation of air causing petrol to be drawn out of the tank. For this purpose the following arrangements might be made when designing the tanks :
