BRAKES.

We have found two further causes of inefficient front brakes. There is more servo braking to the front than to the rear (about 1 1/2 times).

The bottom end of the balance lever has to move further than the top end which means that the swinging arm has to move backwards considerably. This was prevented on 3 P.11 chassis by two fouls such that when the rear brakes were on the front could not come on any further and hence only just rubbed on the drums.

(1) The lock washer of the large nut securing the swinging arm protruded too far through the plate that supports the servo and fouled the two swinging arm hinge pins.

(2) There is a lubricator on the swinging arm shaft vertically downwards that allows a certain movement of the arm due to a recess in the arm and the Ferodo bush. We found that the lubricator fouled the recess and after removing it we were able to get over ~~the~~ double as much front braking.

Attached is a print to make this quite clear R.R.Sch.156
