| v304 To Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} from E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. Nor. O.{Mr Oldham} HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Dy.{F R Danby} Adn. JLS. LA.{L. A. Archer} EV.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} re Phantom III Chassis with Sedanca Bodies. The behaviour of the Sedanca body on 37-EX with standard rubber mounting makes an impossible motorcar and necessitates some changes to overcome the movement of the front door pillars and scuttle with bodies of this type. At my request the Experimental Department tried some modifications to the body mounting. The results of the tests on these were reported in Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/FD.{Frank Dodd - Bodies}18/MJ.7.8.36. It will be remembered that we aimed originally at using a solid mounting throughout for Phantom III bodies, but were driven to use rubber on account of tyre noise. This experiment shows that there is no appreciable difference to tyre noise by using the solid mounting for the scuttle and solid attachment to the dashboard on the Sedanca body with rubber for the remainder. We have, of course, no extensive experience of running this modification, but as the scuttle is only very flexibly attached in any case to the main portion of the body there does not appear any likelihood of trouble arising from the solid attachment to the dash and frame as tried, in fact, rather the reverse, and we accordingly propose to recommend this method of dealing with Sedanca bodies, and are proceeding to add this to our coachbuilders recommendations.
