x4698 Exptl. Dept. Hs {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} /Les.12/KW. 14th February, 1934. The Packless Gland Co. Ltd., Windmill Road, Sunbury, Middlesex. Dear Sirs, GLAND Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} 1077. We are now erecting the first of these units and find that the 2 end pieces of the bellows are not concentric. This causes the bellows to deflect considerably when the shaft turns. We suggest that you should make a shaft as pencilled on the attached print for holding these pieces concentric whilst the bellows are soldered. We like your suggestion for protecting the bellows and would like to use scheme I. Scheme II would cause slight modifications to the shock damper casings. We prefer the extra convolution in the bellows, and find there is no disadvantage in erection. We are returning 4 gland units for which we require the extra convolution and the bellows protection fitted. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED. | ||
