WOR. {Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} from Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Y4266 Hs {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} 4/LG2.7.23. 20 HP+ CHASSIS. PETROL TANK FILLER CAP. We are thoroughly satisfied that the present design of filler cap for the petrol tank cannot possibly work off due to vibration or road shocks if the part is made to the drawing and fitted correctly. This type of cap has been used on all our bumping tests and road tests. We admit, however, that we have lost two caps from our own experimental cars. In each case we have been able to prove conclusively that the cap had been put on incorrectly by somebody who did not understand how the cap fitted. The lock for the cap is not visible. it is possible that as the cap of the petrol tank is frequently replaced by anybody on the road-side supplying petrol, the method of locking should be made obvious or chain fitted to the cap so that it could not be lost. I shall be seeing R. {Sir Henry Royce} this week and will take this point up with him. Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
