X.3642 To HM.{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs} from E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. to CJ. HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} E2/M31.12.24. Re. SILENCERS. X.3642 We should be glad if you could supply some information as regards the extent to which silencers used on our cars become choked up, and also the measures you have to take, if any, for cleaning them out. So far as we can see it is not possible to clean the greater part of our standard silencer by mechanical scraping, and it is with a view to determining how far accessibility can be dispensed with on future work that the above query is raised.
