COPY QUARTERLY REPORT OF COMPLAINTS FROM OWNERS OF 40/50 H.P. AND 20 H.P. ROLLS-ROYCE CARS 27TH FEBRUARY, 1929. Fan spindle coming loose in bracket of 20 h.p. Chassis GF 3. This is very dangerous, as, if not detected quickly, fan blades will damage matrix of radiator. We found that the soldering had given way and spindle coming unscrewed from bracket. We screwed spindle tight into the bracket and drilled and tapped a 1/4" grub screw down spindle and bracket then soldered up the end as formerly. Flanges of exhaust pipes of 20 h.p. Models breaking away and requiring re-flanging and fitting. Chassis 74 AO has broken away on several occasions until pipe became too short and a piece had to be welded in. We would like to suggest that an additional and adequate bracket be fitted at some convenient place which would reduce the vibration which must occur between the two existing connections. Side spare wheel brackets of 20 h.p. Models constantly breaking away at the two top lugs. We have had these broken lugs re-welded to bracket and also welded on an additional plate 3/8" thick on the face of the bracket. The brackets we have so treated are standing up to their job. We would like to suggest that design of side spare wheel brackets as fitted to Phantom Chassis be adopted to 20 H.P. Chassis. We have had several complaints of miles per hour of speedometers jumping and erratic registering. On dismantling speedo and investigating we find the main driven gear to the Veeda clock are not put deep enough into mesh. When this is done speedo works correctly.
