1153? Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls}3/MH.{M. Huckerby} 14th. June, 1939. Messrs. Paul Quinn Ltd., Ipswich Road, Trading Estate, Slough, BUCKS. Dear Sirs, We thank you for your letter of 13th. June, reference PQ/CP. You say in your letter that you are enclosing some correspondence to and from Messrs. Charles Weston & Co., but the only contents of the envelope other than your letter was a large rubber ring. We think there has been some misunderstanding on the principles of using oil seals made in synthetic rubber. Firstly, we do not buy any seals used on the Chassis side from Messrs. Charles Westons. Secondly, as I think we pointed out to you when you were at Derby, we are not interested in testing seals until they become the normal production output of one of the oil seal manufacturing companies. We particularly wish to avoid the use of non-standard, and therefore expensive, features. nearly We have recently succeeded on our chassis in replacing all the oil seals by mechanical means for preventing oil leaks. This we look on as infinitely durable and not prone to give trouble after two or three years' service. Yours faithfully, for ROLLS-ROYCE LTD. | ||
