X4086 Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}3/LG.3.4.22. 4.GOSHAWK.11. X4219 [crossed out] X4086 We have this morning received your report from R/Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} dated 31.3.22. which we have circulated as requested. Wheels. We have now received a set of R.W. wire wheels and it is our intention to have these fixed on 6-Goshawk-ll prior to the car being handed over to the Sales Dept. for Easter. Shock absorber ball end connections. Could not the 40/50 type of connection also be applied to the steering joints. Steering. Although we agree that softer tyres improve the shocks of the steering and also the shocks in the springing of the car - what action do you propose to take to satisfy ourselves that customers will take advantage of this? Do you think we should take advantage on one of the 10,000 miles test cars and have soft tyres i.e. 30 lbs. front and 40 lbs.rear. At present we are rather standardising 40 lbs. front and 50 lbs. rear, but the tyres themselves are stamped 70 lbs. pressure which for good running is hopeless. What tyre pressures are you on with on your car and what is considered the best? As regards steering levers. Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} has now agreed to put in hand 6 sets of these - but these will have to be hand-forged and great difficulty has been experienced in arranging these to be done in view of the present "lock-out" position. We are arranging that 6/7-Goshawk-ll will have these fitted prior to leaving the country and we will send new levers on to you by 6-Goshawk-ll or more direct if this car does not leave at a convenient time for sending these levers. We also propose sending one of these levers to put on the joggling test and compare it with one of the present levers. Leather covers for joints. This is one of the points I took up with when pushing delivery of the 10,000 miles trials cars but found that samples only had been obtained which have now come to hand and we are trying them on 6-Goshawk-ll. We do not, however, think the samples are very suitable and have arranged for Mr. Cotterel of the Wefco Radiator Co. to meet us again to further discuss the shackel covers and also whether the covers could not be obtained and applied for the steering and shock absorber joints. If possible, I will try and get these fixed on by him prior to the car leaving for France so that you will have a chance of judging and expressing your opinion about them. EP.{G.
