[Handwritten: X7800] Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} c. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} [Stamp: RECEIVED NOV 30 1926] CAST DASH & BONNET DESIGN. ----------------------- Referring to BJ28/E.29.11.26. the actual position is as follows:- 1. We have only had one cast dash. We had a stepped dash prior to this, produced by bending a rolled sheet and stiffening same up by reinforcement pieces. The cast dash referred to in R1/M.16.11.25. is the one still under discussion. A cast dash was fitted to 12-EX. and represents the modifications to a standard chassis of the present type which are embodied in ZAC.VIII. 2. The stepped cast dash will have an effect on:- a/- the length of the bonnet. It shortens same by 1.650" b/- the carriage body will also be shortened in appearance, as the back line of the cast dash, which represents the commencement of the body, is 1" behind the present position of the dash-board. c/- the front seating position is modified due to the fact that the columns are moved forward, and as a result the following increase in body space behind the front seat is obtained:- "B" type - 1.500" "C" type - 3.000" "D" type - 4.000" 3. The difference between the present dash and the cast dash is that the cast dash is a stepped dash super-posed in side view on the existing dash, so that the forward edge of the cast dash is 1.450" at the lower stepped portion, forward of the present dash, and at its upper stepped-back portion 1". back. 4. Sales' officials have inspected the cast dash from the point of view of considering whether it should be adopted from the customer's stand-point, the cast dash in question being inspected on 12-EX, and was, I believe, criticised adversely. No standardization sheet has been signed for the cast dash. Contd. | ||
