- 2 - Stromberg Carburettor (Continued) Choke valve spindle sticking. Referred to in correspondence re 22GV in London & HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/RW21/RW.24.36. Petrol Consumption. Has worked out uniformly proportionate to size of car & how hard it was driven. Sticking Throttles. Frequently experienced on Ph.III. & Special short. Link & afterwards stronger throttle spring introduced to over come this trouble. Popping in Silencer. Several times experienced on 22GV in France but always accompanied leaks in exhaust system due to distorted manifold, cracked expansion boxes etc. S.U. Petrol Pumps. Various troubles all experienced during all 15,000 miles on cars fitted with these pumps. a shady improvement has been recorded. Ignition failures. (25/30) Coils. Several 25/30 coils have failed on Bentleys in France. e.g. 6BIV daily report 29-8-36. No condenser failures recorded during last two years. H.T. wires on 22GV failed. P2 of report at 13,000 miles HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/CWH/IMW{Ivan M. Waller - Head of Chateauroux} 1./JAB 20.7.36. Misfires due to direct sparking through rotor experienced during tests on Mt. Ventoux with 22GV & special rotor with raised blade produced in Derby. No specific cause of other faults mentioned although well known in exp. dept. Dynamo. Commutator troubles experienced with 35 Ex but this had special brushes. These were however intended to over come the known faults. No trouble with noisy bearings in dynamos in France. Starter motor. No trouble with 22 GVE Starter motor cork clutch but trouble known in exp. test. Ph III Starter rings usually in poor condition when stripped. Button switch trouble due to faulty pig tail on 32 Ex.
