From the copy attached you will see that we succeeded in getting away with the centre point radiator mounting. Axles are still a mystery, but we think we are finding out something about the surface of the teeth, which may produce inconsistency possibly due to over-heating when running in. (Handwritten note above 'teeth': lapping) The "H" engine Type Test has at last started. We have the carburetters in the "Vee" in the "Fox" at Martlesham and ACL. is down there carrying out tests. They gave very good results before leaving here. The re-distribution scheme is on the "All-metal Horsely" also at Martlesham, and Gibson is with this. The spare engine has been fitted to the S.6. but we have heard no news of a flight up to date. Segrave's job is going O.K. but we are testing out his water system at present. We are not altogether happy about this as he is having no water tanks and drawing the water direct from the lake. We think it will work alright when the boat is going, but the trouble is that there are so many cocks etc., to work that we are afraid that the engine may be inadvertently run dry when started up. However, we are testing out the whole system here, and one of the testers who has been on the job here should be with the boat to see that everything is O.K. | ||
