- 6 - Servo - Phantom lll. Squeaks and Jaggers. GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux} reports that 'Jaggers' are not general complaint. The present linings get polished with use, resulting in in-efficient servo action. Powder rubbed off the linings causes the operating spindles to become sluggish in action. LA.{L. A. Archer} states that he has sent a complete servo to Cricklewood with a view to its being fitted to a chassis which is sent in with a servo suffering from these troubles. The replaced unit should be sent up to Derby for BY's examination. Brakes. Inefficient brakes. In service the bedding is hard on the heel of the shoes, resulting in spongy brakes. This bedding has to be eased off. It was pointed out that they were now "machined" in position by a cutter running off the wheel bearings. This method should result in a better finish than hand bedding. Carburettors. - Phantom lll. Sticking Throttles. Due to gumming up of spindles. A stronger throttle return spring is required. Design investigation is necessary to do this on cars prior to 'E' series. BENTLEY - Sticking Throttle. This is brought about due to overtightening up of joint flange nuts. The joint washer has no ferrules in the stud hole, yet has one in the centre hole. The possibility of using a different type of jointing is to be investigated. Exhaust System - Suspension. Squeaking at joints. Cy. suggested that they should be built up with graphited high melting point grease. Harold Whyman - Experimental Manager} [Right of Exhaust System section:] -> Agree [Signature: Lay] [Bottom of page:] Sticking Throttle was experienced on 6.BIV with special washers with ferrules in the stud holes. We do not agree that sticking throttles are often due to reason given. |MW. [Bottom right:] BY/NS.{Norman Scott} [Signature: BY] | ||
