Rocker Shaft.

Eccentricity between inside and outside diameters of the rocker bushes causes the valves to stick when the engine is hot. This was due to the method of mounting employed on the diamond turning lathes. The first batches of bushes were ground. Maximum eccentricity permissible is .0005.
Works have revised their method and are producing bushes to this figure.
A number of cars may be in service which will suffer from this complaint.
The Works are to supply Cricklewood with a quantity of bushes to cover their requirements.

Non-return Valve - Induction Pipe Hot Spot. Phantom lll.

Dural ball gets covered with "varnish" from petrol - the heat causes it to become tackey and the ball sticks.
This upsets the carburation, causing an over-rich mixture, making hot starting difficult.
Investigations are proceeding into the question.

Clutch Trunnion Bearing.

Cricklewood report that the thrust bearing has been dismantled and cleaned. The meaning of this is not clear.
The Order Office are to be asked to state when the new bearings with special clearances will be available.

CLUTCH - 25/30 HP. Increased slack in diameter to NRC{N. R. Chandler}
Linings. reduce load on balls. what are Ours?
Experience has proved that a better type of surface is required.

Internal Rusting.

This is due to atmospheric conditions, and is aggravated by the absence of oil vapour in the clutch pit.

STEERING - PHANTOM lll.

Knocks from rear joint on side steering tube.

This is overcome by increasing the load of the rear spring in the joint. The correct setting of the spring is determined by the amount it projects beyond the sleeve. The correct figure is .010 to .015 instead of .005 to .008, as previously recommended.

Oil Level Indicator - Phantom lll.
Defective Float.
The flat disc at the base of the float had become detached - the float in question is being examined.
A cork float is to come on to production at the 1st. chassis in 'E' series.
