1020a. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}4/R.{Sir Henry Royce} 23rd August, 1938. G.D. Robinson, Esq., Chief Designer, The Associated Equipment Co.,Ltd., SOUTHALL, Middx. Dear Mr. Robinson, I am wondering how your aluminium tin main bearings are behaving on road service. As I mentioned to you when I was at the Factory, our own experience has been that with main bearings one of the most important points is to keep the oil clean. The remarkable condition of your bearings after your test bed run confirmed how well they behave when supplied with uncontaminated lubricant. We have found that in order to avoid occasional scuffed main bearings, it is well worth taking special precautions over filtering equipment. I think that ultimately you will come to the same conclusion. I remember your saying you could not rely on the operators bothering to change or clean a filter even if you put it on the engine, but I am sure that this should not apply to Fleet owners or large organisations such as you deal with. Anyhow, I am asking Mr. Worth, who is manufacturing the General By-pass filter over here, to call on you, when perhaps you will at least try out this product which we think is the best of its type, so that should you run into any trouble with bearings which could be improved by filtration you will have tested a means of eliminating it. Yours sincerely, | ||
