For the attention of Mr. S. Burman.

Dear Sirs,

I am enclosing a print of PL.828 the arrangement of the new steering gear for our Austin 8. I am sorry that pressure of other work has compelled me to send this to you in an unfinished condition but I believe that there will be sufficient information on the drawing in its present state for you to fix up the details of the mounting ear on the box.

Since writing to you last, the spring geometry has been more carefully laid out, and as a result we find that the ideal position for the pendulum lever ball pin is slightly different from that shewn on sheet 2 of PL.787. Our new drawing shows the revised position. The box is drawn in to your print 4-725, with the addition of an extension with three bosses to pick up the existing holes in the frame. The best place for the filler plug will be in the tube of the column as on the other boxes you are going for us, and in approximately the same position in relation to the box. The sections AA{D. Abbot-Anderson} and BB for the mounting ear on the box need not be rigidly adhered to.

With regard to the length of the column, I have assumed that the base of the existing steering wheel boss will come to the shoulder below the splines on your drawing 4-725, and the length of the column (dimension left blank on 4-725) from the end of the thread on the inner tube to the rocker shaft centre line, should these be 54.3/16". Can you tell me from your knowledge whether the splines and fixing you shew will fit the existing steering wheel?

Cont'd.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary}
