X 1110 Exptl. Dept. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls}4/KW. 19th June, 1935. Messrs. Borg & Beck Ltd., Tachbrook Works, Leamington Spa, Warwickshire. For the attention of Mr. Barker. Dear Sirs, Confirming our telephone conversation of yesterday, we shall be glad to see you at the Works on Friday and think it most probable that we shall be able to take you out on a car fitted with one of your clutches arranged to your layout. We are glad to note that you will bring over your Morris car fitted with the automatic clutch disengagement in about 10 days' time, so that various of our officials can try the car. We send you herewith arrangement drawings of the pedals on our Phantom car. We hope these will be sufficient for you to send us a sketch of how best to arrange your toggle scheme for lightening the pedal effort. At present an effort of 50 lbs. is required to disengage the clutch, and then 35 lbs. to hold it out. Assuming the friction is the same in either direction, this will amount to 7½ lbs. We hope you can arrange your scheme so as to reduce the effort from 25 lbs. at the start and 30 lbs. fully disengaged. In our normal arrangement on this car, the pedal is not sprung up but we will arrange this feature by an additional spring. Perhaps you would let us know the strength you recommend for this spring. If you require any more drawings let us know and we will send them to you. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED. | ||
