In reply to your memo CJ1/IW21213
we give below Mr Haldenby's report :-

"In reply to Mr Johnson's query, the hand
"brake is quieter in operation than the foot
"brake but I do not think it wise to change
"over the foot and hand brakes, as the
"present hand brake would not be powerful
"enough if operated by the pedal. It would
"also wear out rather quickly as the foot
"brake is used more than the hand brake and
"being totally enclosed would be likely to
"get hot. We are having some of the
"present foot brake drums polished with
"a view to quietening them, and I believe
"this will be effective to some extent."
