PHANTOM III STANDARDISATION OF PARTS
Date Issued: 23.2.38
Sheet No. P.20.
Drg. No. DW.200.

Description: WATER PUMP COUPLING.
Purpose: Give increased flexibility to adopt for malalignment between dynamo and pump.
Brief Report and Remarks: The 3 spring plates in the above coupling are .012 thickness against standard plates which are .018" thick and are approximately 3 times as flexible.
We have run couplings with 3 - .0076 plates over 50 hrs. endurance and although there has not been any failure the plates show signs of buckling.
Based on this we consider the .012 thick plates which are also used on Wraith are amply strong enough and have the advantage of increased flexibility and are common to the two engines.
Old Parts Material: £0. 4. 3. Labour: Bought out. Total: £0. 4. 3.
New Parts Material: £0. 1. 6. Total: £0. 1. 6.
Decrease in Cost £0. 2. 9. GRL
Cost of Tools £ Nil.
Production Position and Comments: Thinner spring plates for water pump coupling reduce factory cost of chassis by 2/9d., and can be introduced without scrap at 1st. chassis in 'E' series. No tool cost is involved.
