X8140 In reply to your letter concerning the above would you kindly note that the governor shaft arm commences to open the throttle valve with a ratio of 5 to 1 in the design as you saw it, and the rate of angular opening at the beginning of the stroke is just over 10% of the rate of angular opening at the end of the stroke. We have a modified design of this control nearly ready with .750 instead of .5 diameter roller and the rate of angular opening at the beginning 25% of that of the end. We tested the friction of the throttle with the engine running slowly under no load when in Derby, and the amount of torque required to overcome it obtained by pulling with a spring balance on the throttle lever 1" long, was 1lb. inch.
