SUSPENSION - Cont'd.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary}
Ground clearance. - The frame just fouled the ground under very exceptional conditions, but did no harm. Tests on rough lanes under normal conditions showed the clearance to be sufficient.
Front shock dampers (with 8" deflection front springs). - Experiments have shown that there is no appreciable gain in going to high poundages, and a compromise has been reached which is giving a good ride at all speeds on one setting. It appears that governor or hand control will not be required to the front dampers.
R.R. rear shock dampers. - Experiments in progress with various leaks and valve settings. This is the most important work required on the car at present.
Rubber bushes in front suspension. - Endways displacement of these occurs. Tests are in progress on the bump with diagonal bracing on the lower triangles which are showing promising results.
Increased inertia on front wheels to represent iron brake drums. - Lead weights are being fitted up to investigate the effect on suspension and steering reactions.
Wandering at high speeds. - Investigation of this feature is in progress. Lowering the inner ends of the cross steering tube has effected an improvement, but there is still a slight vagueness about the directional stability on wavy roads.
