| -6- SUSPENSION. Rear damper brackets for R.R. dampers. These are temporary mock-ups, pending a satisfactory final arrangement. They have given trouble due to deflection and fracture. Packing washers under front springs. These did not bed correctly as they fouled the radius on the spigot. They have been rivetted together and radiused to fit. It is suggested that for future cars instead of using a number of equal washers, a selection of various thicknesses, already radiused, should be available. The matter required to be settled. Front springs fouling pan. This pan is obsolete. Nothing can be done to increase the clearance. On the new pan the clearance is not so fine as there is no tunnel, and it can be increased slightly if necessary. Front road springs. 8" initial deflection. 8" initial deflection front springs have been fitted experimentally and improved the ride considerably. The above notes on the front dampers apply to these springs. Further sets have been ordered for bumping and for the new cars. 5 1/2" initial deflection rear springs are fitted. Front roll rod. This has been found advisable in conjunction with the 8" front springs. The Oldsmobile rod has been rigged up with satisfactory results. A design scheme will be required. Skid pan tests. A full set of tests have been carried out by Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/FJH.{Fred J. Hardy - Chief Dev. Engineer} The characteristics are good and not upset seriously by changes in tyre pressure. | ||
