To Hd.{Mr Hayward/Mr Huddy} (For Depot Sheet) 206 RM{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/AFM.{Anthony F. Martindale}4/AP.10.6.37 BRAKE SQUEAKS - BENTLEY. We have issued a Standardisation Sheet for Ferodo B.Z. brake linings combined with 35° servo cams, as at present used only on 25-30.HP. cars. The reason for changing to B.Z. is that we have run a car 12,000 miles in France and another 14,000 miles in England and neither car has developed squeaks. Even Mr.Hawkins admitted it was better than M.R. It seems necessary to change the servo cams from 45° to 35° as B.Z. has a lower coefficient of friction than M.R. In bad cases of brake squeaks we suggest this alteration should be made, in addition to the usual re-setting of the tipping shoe. We think we will be able to standardize Ferodo M.L. shortly, which we consider to be rather better than B.Z. EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} and Mays have it on their cars now.
