DAL/CBS-4-21 contd. We have shewn the lower flange of the stationary tube screwed on to the tube instead of pegged and brazed, in order to enable the column support to be removed. We have also shewn two withdrawing devices for the pendulum lever, one a simple flange, and the other a nut. "H" Schemes 818 and 822 shew the suggestions for supporting the steering column box. The position does not come very well with reference to the split in the crankcase, and we have several alternative schemes for providing the seating on the crankcase. It has also been necessary to modify the cylindrical seating for the steering gear box, as compared with Goshawk I, and three alternatives are shewn of that. The difference between the various figures shewn on 818 and those on 822 is that the latter is brought as close up to the steering box as possible, whereas on 818 a little more latitude is given in order to improve the pieces. Finally, on "H" Scheme 819 we shew the suggested spherical support for the steering column on the dashboard. The foot is shewn with the brake pedal touching the footboards, and it will be seen that it is quite clear in this position. Owing to the method of screwing the tube, the spherical rings are shewn split in two pieces. But an alternative (Fig II) where the tube is left, the diameter of the screw for the part covered by the support,is suggested, or it may be thought best to spring the spherical washers and distance pieces over the screw thread, leaving the plain part of the tube of the diameter of the bottom of the thread.
