outer edges. Some pins could be arranged to keep this wire
band from coming off, or it could be stapled in position as other
staples in the working part of the clutch.

Another idea is to use double stitching
with wire or even waxed thread
like sole of a boot & also a 3
round of wire over the edges
Possibly the sewing or Steel band
or both may be best for the edge
& staples for the centre post.
